Geocache Description:

Old Growth Timber on Camano Island grew huge in size.

In the early 1900's Camano Island was known for having tall timber, trees could be 200 feet tall and 38 inches in diameter. The Esary Logging Company operated a logging camp here from 1905 to 1908. The property later became Cama Beach Resort

As Cama Beach State Park was developed, parking areas were created to give people a pleasant experience by keeping the woods and even the stumps with springboard notches from the turn of the century logging. The usable wood from the removed trees was milled into boards and has been the source of material for outdoor furniture making and other park uses. The Cama Beach Furniture Makers were experienced volunteer woodworkers who made numerous pieces of furniture for the cabin area.

 

  1. This geocache has an approved Permit to be placed at this location on property managed by the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission. Visitors are responsible for acquainting themselves with policies and rules pertaining to State Parks areas.
