Orchids are a large family of plants around the globe, primarily in the tropics. We have a fair number of plants in the orchid family, but they are small and easy to overlook. When this plant is in bloom, in the summertime, it will have a spike of flowers coming from the center of the plant. They tiny white to greenish colored flowers are numerous and often on one side.
The plant likes to grow in mosses in coniferous forests from the lowlands to the middle elevations.
The stripes on the leaves are said to resemble snakeskin markings. There are no rattlesnakes in this park, but I have seen a common garter snake sunning itself next to a grouping of these plants and the camouflage was excellent.
Please be careful of the plants while you are searching for the cache.
