Geocache Description:

This cache is situated along a track beside a lookout with views of Dairy Creek, a duck pond and Lime Kiln Bay wetlands area. Oatley Heights Park, Mortdale Heights.

When I was a boy, my grandfather used to take me on walks from my home, exploring the bush and these caves. He told me a story of an escaped prisoner who lived in the twin caves during the early 1900s, eating bush tucker, cooking wild animals and getting water from the stream below. Shortly before he died, the prisoner 'bequethed' the caves to my grandfather. As I now feel that I have part ownership of the caves, I thought I should place a geocache here!

From the lookout you can see the duck pond below. During the early 1900s, my grandfather and the other local kids used to swim in a large natural waterhole there called "The Devil's Hole", which was so deep that the bottom couldn't be seen or touched.

You will need a little agility to find the cache, which is my grandfather's old marbles pouch.

Parking - either Mortdale Heights (Cnr of Baringa & Barwon Roads and walk into the bush reserve beside the house) or Oatley (Waterfall Road and walk down the steps and across the bridge).
