Geocache Description:

Yoda: Size matters not. Look at me. Judge me by my size, do you? Hmm? Hmm. And well you should not. For my ally is the Force, and a powerful ally it is. Life creates it, makes it grow. Its energy surrounds us and binds us. Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter. You must feel the Force around you; here, between you, me, the tree, the rock, everywhere, yes. Even between the land and the ship.

This international Geocaching day I thought I would have an event of a different nature up here WITHIN Whangarei. Hopefully the weather is good as it would be great not to be flooded out.

When: 10am Meet up and make our way underground. Unknown time will be under but approximately 2 hours is approximate.

Where: Abbey Caves - Organ Cave entrance.

What: CAVING! These caves are open to the public and are entry at your own risk.
I have done these caves numerous times and know them fairly well, and as long as you are able to hold your weight and are able to maneuver through spaces and are ready to GET WET, you will be fine.
We will start with the Organ Cave then move on to the Middle cave and then the Ivy after that.

An excerpt from the WDC website says - "Only experienced cavers should enter underground, as there are risks from rapidly rising water and roof falls. The Organ Cave entrance is dangerous due to a roof fall."

We will decide on whether we do the caves depending on the weather and if it is NOT SAFE we will not be attempting.

Going Caving
You can visit The Abbey Caves for free and they are located just a few minutes walk in the picturesque nature reserve.
To visit the caves will take approximately 2 hours and be prepared to get wet!

Follow these tips for safe caving:
Never go caving alone Never go caving during or after heavy rain
Always wear a safety helmet, good footwear and have at least one head torch per person
Check the batteries in your torch before entering the caves
Bring a towel
Keep your eyes peeled for the event later on in the day to meet up with others that couldn't make it
