Geocache Description:

The Mermaid Pool is located in the Northern Sydney suburb of Manly Vale, and is situated on Manly Creek (formally Curl Curl Creek), approximately 350 metres down stream of Manly Dam. Access is via a short bush track starting from King Street (Trailhead waypoint T0).

As a kid in the early 1970's I spent a lot of time mucking around down at the Mermaid Pool, and these days our family still visit from time to time to enjoy it’s natural wonders.

It is known as the Mermaid Pool because girls from a nearby shantytown, during the 1930s Great Depression, would swim naked there in the evenings. But it’s once pristine swimming area, with sandy beach, sparkling waterfall, and diverse bushland & rainforest surroundings, had suffered from years of neglect and illegal dumping. The Landcare project "Return of the Mermaids" is an attempt to return the Mermaid Pool to it’s former glory.

Parking: Street parking is available in nearby King Street, and also in front of the Manly Hydraulics laboratory buildings (also in King Street).

Public Transport: Numerous bus routes run along Condamine Street, closest cross street leading to the cache is King Street (about a 1 Km walk to the cache), and bus route 145 (Warringah Mall Brookvale to The Bluff Seaforth) actually travels right past the cache location.

The Cache is a camouflaged 1.2 litre Sistema container with plenty of room for swaps & trackables. Please replace exactly as found, ensuring it's pushed all the way back in, and with the chunk of natural camo placed in front to block it's view from passing muggles.

We hope you enjoy our fourth geocache placement.
