Geocache Description:

Did you know...

We add a leap day to our calendar nearly every 4 years to align it with the seasons in a tropical year. The tropical year, also known as the solar year, is the time that the Earth takes to circle once around the sun. The tropical year is measured between two March equinoxes and has 365.2422 days. However, the Gregorian calendar has only 365 days in a year, so when compared to the tropical year, the calendar year loses 0.2422 days, or almost 6 hours per year. After 100 years, we would be 24 days ahead of the tropical year.
By adding an extra day – February 29 – in the calendar nearly every 4 years, we significantly reduce the difference between the calendar year and the tropical year. This makes the calendar more in sync with the seasons.

So, clear your Julian calendars and let's grab a bite to eat at Decorah's very own Pizza Ranch at 5:00pm on Monday February 29th and celebrate this unique day.

This will give you a chance to:
* match some names and faces
* ask any questions you might have about this fine activity that we love
* meet some fine folks

When you post your "Will Attend" log, please let me know how many people will be accompanying you, ok?
