Perhaps one of the loveliest sights in George is the Dutch Reformed Church at the top of Meade Street framed by the gracious oak trees which line the street with the mountain as a backdrop.

Die boumateriaal het uit 1 800 wavragte fondament-, stoep - en platklip en 1 896 756 bakstene bestaan. Bakstene wat deur die gemeente self in sy eie steenoonde gebrand is, is nie bygereken nie. Die ontsaglike hoeveelheid geelhout (die hele plafon, die pilare onder die galerye en die panele van die galerye bestaan daaruit) en stinkhout wat gebruik is, is uit die plaaslike woude afkomstig en groot hoeveelhede het ook van Knysna en Plettenbergbaai gekom. Die deur van die hoofingang is van kiaathout en is per ossewa van Kaapstad na George vervoer.

Die preekstoel, wat deur ene Heyns ontwerp en binne 'n jaar deur hom voltooi is, is uit plaaslike stinkhout vervaardig en het destyds R400 gekos. Riet vir die oorspronklike rietdak en kalk vir die pleisterwerk was uit die distrik Riversdal afkomstig.

Disaster struck the community when the church steeple collapsed on 13 September 1905. Rain had been blown through the open windows for years and had weathered the woodwork and weakened the walls to such an extent that the ten inches of rain that fell during three days caused the brickwork to crumble. The present bell was bought at the time of reconstruction and the London firm of Philipson and Stow presented the steeple clock.

The historical old sundial next to the path of the main entrance was erected by surveyor Edmore one and a quarter centuries ago.
