About the site
The Lin Family was the wealthiest family in Taiwan during the Qing Dynasty. In addition to their residential mansion in Daxi, Taoyuan, family patriarch Lin Ping-hou built a second residence in Banqiao for convenience in collecting rent from his tenants. Construction started on the original house and gardens in 1847. Over time, Lin Ping-hou's sons made additions, resulting in a complex of 52 rooms, courtyards, and gardens that comprise over 20,000 square meters. It is one of the finest examples of Qing period houses to be found in Taiwan.
Garden is open 9am to 5pm daily (until 7pm on Fridays). Closed on the first Monday of each month. Entrance is free. There is now an admission fee, but the cache is located outside of the gardens.
