Parce que j'ai la chance de travailler au centre-ville de montréal, il m'arrive de profiter de l'heure du lunch pour me promener, au hasard, dans les magnifiques rues du vieux Montréal. Et lors de ma dernière promenade, j'ai parcouru le trajet qui se trouve sur la carte ci-dessous.
Because I am fortunate to work in downtown Montreal, I often take the lunch hour to walk through the beautiful streets of Old Montreal. And on my last ride, I traveled the route which is located on the map below.

Ma promenade débute au coin de St-François-Xavier et St-Paul, aux coordonnées N 45 30.160 W 073 33.317. La rue St-Paul sera longtemps la plus importante rue commerciale de la ville. Au 19e siècle, le Vieux-Montréal devient le berceau de la presse montréalaise et abrite une multitude de journaux français et anglais. My walk begins at the corner of St-Francois-Xavier and St-Paul, at coordinates N 45 30.160 W 073 33.317. St-Paul Street will be for a long time the most important commercial street of the city. In the nineteenth century Old Montreal becomes the cradle of the Montreal press and houses a multitude of French and English newspapers. |

En poursuivant vers l'ouest sur St-Paul, j'arrive au coin de la rue McGill, aux coordonnées N 45 30.013 W 073 33.419. Cette voie emprunte sa dénomination à l'institution d'enseignement à laquelle elle conduit, l'Université McGill, fondée le 21 mars 1821, grâce à un legs de James McGill (1744-1813) à cet effet. Continuing west on St Paul, I arrive at the corner of McGill Street, at coordinates N 45 30.013 W 073 33.419. This route borrows its name to the educational institution to which it leads, McGill University, founded March 21, 1821, through a bequest by James McGill (1744-1813) to this effect. |

Et je termine ma promenade au coin des rues Gauvin et Saint-Jacques, aux coordonnées N 45 30.022, W 73 33.677. La rue Gauvin rappelle une patriote, probablement Marguerite Barsalou (1785-1856) ou l’une de ses filles. Marguerite et ses filles ont régulièrement visité les patriotes prisonniers à la suite des Rébellions de 1837-1838. And I finish my walk at the corner of Saint-Jacques and Gauvin, at coordinates N 45 30.022 W 073 33.677. Gauvin Street recalls a patriot, probably Marguerite Barsalou (1785-1856) or one of his daughters. Marguerite and her daughters have regularly visited the prisoners Patriots following the Rebellions of 1837-1838. |
