Geocache Description:

This cemetery is hidden away from the road but is well worth a visit.

Cache is not on any graves.

Parking is close by on the Cudgegong road with a little walk up the slope to the cemetery. The cemetery dates back to 1844 with the burial of William Hawker. His marker is still intact. Also one of the first of the ten settlers of Bathurst is buried here. His name was John Nevell. His gravestone is still intact and has his death as 1854. From what I have read apparently the original cemetery was across the road on flatter ground and then around the 1880s the graves were moved across the road to higher ground. Carwell was the only burial ground back then before Rylstone Cemetery began. I noticed two gravestones across the road on private property, maybe that is the original burial ground.

Cache is a sistema. Please bring a pen and check out the forgotten graves here.
