Geocache Description:

This is our fourth geocache in the Banks Street Reserve wilderness. Whilst in the reserve you should see plenty of Bush Turkeys, Golden Orb Weaver Spiders, Australian Native Trees and.... Lilies.

Blue Flax Lily - Dianella Caerulea

Look for a lily with blue star-shaped flowers, purple berries and strappy leaves. It is drought tolerant and often used in landscaping and gardening.

Honeyeaters, lorikeets and other birds love the berries and disperse the seeds throughout the forest. Aborigines also ate the berries and roasted the starchy roots. They used the flax-like leaves to make nets, traps and dilly bags. Early settlers made a blue dye from the berries.

Dianella Caerulea - Diana was the Roman Goddess of the hunt, ella means small. (very apt for this cache) Caerulea refers to the dark blue of the flowers and berries.

The Cache Stuff

Ground Zero can be reached best by choosing the best path to lead you close to your destination, otherwise you'll be bush bashing for a bit.

Bring your own pencil. When replacing cache note, please place it inside lid before screwing back together. Not a tough hide and quite exposed, so take care to blend it back in a bit, please.

Happy hunting!
