C’era a Livorno il “parterre” (così veniva chiamato), un giardino zoologico che fortunatamente oggi è rimasto solo giardino. Gli animali sono stati trasferiti agli inizi degli anni ’90.
Tra questi animali ce n’era uno in particolare, un orso bruno che veniva chiamato da tutti i livornesi Gigiballa. Questo nome derivava dal fatto che quest’orso ballasse veramente. Era l’attrazione dello zoo. I genitori portavano i figli a vedere lo “spettacolo” di questo animale e tutti ne ridevano.
La verità però era che l’orso “ballava” perché aveva male ad un dente. E, ballando, emetteva un urlo quasi angosciante, come richiesta d’aiuto.
Quest’orso è morto, all’età di 33 anni (età considerevole per un orso), nell’estate del 2007 nella riserva naturale dell’Orecchiella, in provincia di Lucca, dove era stato trasferito nel ’92. Perchè nessuno ha curato quel povero orso, pur sapendo del suo malessere? Probabile che non si presero provvedimenti perché rimanesse un attrazione. Una delle tate storie di sfruttamento e maltrattamento degli animali negli zoo. Nessuno provvedeva pur sapendo………….
