The Legend of Doris Gravlin, the Ghost of the Victoria Golf Course...The nurse and caregiver was just 30 years old when she was murdered on the fairway by her estranged husband in 1936. She was strangled to death, and her body left on the shore near the seventh green. She was discovered five days later by a boy who was looking for golf balls along the beach. The following month, a local fisherman found her husband Victor's body floating nearby, tangled in a bed of kelp. Doris's shoes, which had been missing from her body, were found in his coat. The case was closed. Or so it seemed. Shortly after, people began to tell stories of a ghostly apparition, dressed all in white, that stalked the golf course at night. Some reports said she was running, while others saw her staring out towards the ocean. Apparently, sightings of Doris became more commonplace in the 1960s after a group of university students claimed she ran towards them before veering off suddenly and disappearing. Legend has it that if you go to the golf course on the night of a full moon and ring a bell that sits between the sixth and seventh holes, Doris' ghost will appear. "It's almost become a rite of passage for young people in Victoria to go down to the golf course and ring that bell at night," Some believe the spirit of Victor's mother, who never accepted that her son was the murderer, can be seen wandering the course looking for the real culprit.
