The geocache in this musician's honour is not (!) hidden at the obvious location*. To find the cache's coordinates, you need to answer the following questions:
A: Which year was the musician born? (cross sum, one digit)
B: The musician converted to a religion that worships the former Ethiopian emperor Haile Selassie. What was the given name at birth (including the then title) of said monarch? (number of letters)
C: What was the name of the musician's band during his most sucessful period? (number of letters, cross sum, one digit)
You should find the cache at the following coordinates:
N 09° 0(A+1).38B'
E 038° 47.(C+1)43'
Since there are often people in the area, use stealth when searching for the container, e.g. by acting as a tourist - the spot makes for nice pictures of Addis Ababa's skyline.
You can check your answers for this puzzle on GeoChecker.com.
(Note: The final location of the container was changed in November 2017 due to construction at the original spot that made hiding the cache there impossible. Hence, also the formula is new - in case you calculated the coordinates before said date.
* The "?" originally marked a roundabout with a statue of the musician - unfortunately, that roundabout was removed in the course of trying to reduce traffic jams. The destiny of the statue is currently unknown.)
Note by the owner (July 2019):
After four years in Ethiopia, my time in the 'Land of Origins' came to an end in July 2019. I have done my best to widen and maintain the net of geocaches in the country, but now need to call on my fellow cachers for help: If you venture out to search for this cache, please take a replacement container with you, just in case the original is gone. - Sundowner74 |
