Geocache Description:

This is a Wherigo geocache. The game should take around 20-30 minutes to complete.

An Evil Cache Owner has been attacked by a frustrated cacher you need to find out who did it what did they use and where did the crime take place. Visit the locations in the park and make your guesses try to solve the crime before Inspector Muggle does.

This is my second Wherigo and my first written from the ground up. I wrote it using the excellent web building tool Earwigo, although I largely relied on writing the interactions in LUA rather than using its functions/expressions/events processing capabilities.

This Wherigo cartridge is based on the popular board game Cluedo, known as Clue in North America. Instructions are included in the cartridge, but I will go over all you need to know in this cache description. If you want to play on your smartphone and don't yet have a wherigo player app you can get one by downloading an app from the appropriate app store for your phone. Searching for Wherigo should find one. If you have issues getting the cartridge running on your phone let me know by PM.

Before you download the cartridge is advised that you login to www.wherigo.com with your usual Geocaching login (both sites are run by Groundspeak so the login works on both), then once logged in to the website there is an option to set what type of device you have. If you set your device to "Pocket PC" then this will then mean when you download a cartridge on the app it will always download the version for smartphones.

Once you have installed the App you need to download the cartridge this can be done from inside the App on an iPhone, on an Android device its easiest to plug the phone into a computer and in the internal storage create a folder called WhereYouGo and save the cartridge into that folder.

The cartridge is available here Please ensure you are running v1.8 or higher of the cartridge. Note if you have followed the instructions above the dropdown will already be on Pocket PC. If not you will need to set the dropdown option to Pocket PC if you are using a smartphone app to play. Some users have noted that this doesn't seem to be possible to select within the app hence the suggestion for setting it on the website before you use the App.

Starting the game
The game takes place in the Duthie Park in Aberdeen. Once you have loaded the cartridge you can use the start game item in your inventory this will randomly select the crime details then deal the cards and start the game.

You will be dealt nine cards at the start of the game. You KNOW that none of these can be part of the solution so you can score off these NINE cards straight away. Some players haven't noticed all nine cards and have therefore struggled to eliminate all options.

How to Play
In this game you move around the map going to nine different possible locations in the park. When you arrive at a location you can make a guess as to who committed the crime and with which object. The location you guess will always be the location you are standing at to make a guess. Once you have worked out the crime you go to the East Lodge which is playing the role of the police station and report the crime.

You are playing against Inspector Muggle a hapless investigator who often forgets what he knows and will sometimes guess something he already knew, but occassionally he gets lucky and stumbles on the solution. After each guess you make, Inspector Muggle will get the chance to make a guess.

If Inspector Muggle guesses right he will win and you lose the game.

Making a Guess
To make a guess you move to a location where you think the crime might have been committed. You will then get the chance to make a guess as to which suspect committed the crime and with which weapon.

Once you make a guess, Inspector Muggle will let you know if he can refute any of your suggestions. If he can he will show you the card and you can eliminate that as a possible answer.

By using a process of elimination and logic you can deduce who committed the crime, with what and where.

If you want to guess again at the same location you need to move 10-15m outside the area (depending on GPS accuracy) and then move back into the area to trigger the guess again. You are allowed a maximum of two guesses at an area before you must move on. You can however return after you have guessed somewhere else. Keep this in mind when planning your strategy.

Finding the Geocache
When you are confident you know who committed the crime make your way to the East Lodge Police Station location and report the crime. Be very careful a false accusation will mean you get arrested instead and you will lose the game.

If you get the details right you will win and the location of the cache and the hint will be revealed.
