UPDATE 1/22/16: This cache was placed by canoe on a freezing January day in 2016, and was first published under the title "First to Find THIS!" It was intended as a dare and challenge to some of the brave and crazy First-To-Findophiles around here. Based on the cache going just 11 days unlogged, we're proud to report that OUR FTFP's are among the most brave and crazy that you will encounter anywhere on the Geocaching earth. So we dedicate the cache to these pioneers, who cache in the spirit of Columbus, Magellan, Hillary, Amundsen and Armstrong! But even without the "reward of priority" (as Robert Scott described his failed attempt to be FTF at the South Pole), this is still a fun and challenging cache, and is available in all seasons. GO FOR IT! For historical purposes, we're leaving unchanged the cache description as first published. You don't have to read it if you don't want to.
**************************************************************************************** There are those who are called to leave their homes in the middle of the night to be First To Find a new cache. There are those who are chosen to drive a hundred miles in the pouring rain to get their hands on that blank logsheet. Could it be you we're talking about? Perhaps you're smiling as you read this and thinking, OK. Big deal. Been there, done that. What else ya got? Funny you should ask. ,
El Fartero and Akiva bring you the cache you crave. If it is your destiny to be enshrined as the Supreme First To Find legend, your time is now! Get your boat out to Richfield Springs and place it in the icey waters of Canaderego Lake for a 3/4 mile paddle to the wintry shore of Deowongo Island. It is there that your prize awaits. Bundle up, bring a friend, and allow 2 hours for your quest before night falls. If it's windy or choppy...best to wait another day. First To Find may bring glory and bragging rights, but will not keep you warm should you spill in this freezing water.
We've placed a canoe-required cache in the middle of January to bring to you, the cacher undaunted, an experience you'll always remember. Your friends and family may think you tell a lot of boring stories (and we're sure you do), but believe us, this is one they'll want to hear. They'll roll their eyes and say you're nuts, but what do you care? Come to think of it, you sort of want them to feel this way about you, don't you now? And wait! If the frigid paddle isn't enough to establish you as the myth and legend we know you are...you can even jump in the water to see if it's really as cold as you think it is. (Yeah we did that too, and it is. We managed to stay in about 0.75 seconds. Of course, under Groundspeak regulations, this would count as an Extra Logging Requirement, and so is absolutely optional.) Cache is stocked with 6 lottery tickets to reward the fearless half-dozen who first make the crossing. If you win the jackpot...Congratulations! But curb your enthusiasm. You still have to make it back. (Only 1 ticket per caching account please.) When the First To Find is claimed, we will change the title of the cache and revise the cache description.
