If you're looking for an easy Smiley this should be the right place. We've stashed a plastic container inside the host which is about the size of an ammo-box at a small community park and rest stop with an entrance from the main highway, not from the nearby neighborhood to the west.
This was not a busy place until the disc golf course was installed.
You will likely find less activity here during the winter months although at any given time there could be plenty of Muggle activity. Container is large enough to hold a number of items including Geocoins and TBs. There are bathrooms, a covered picnic table and parking available near the cache.
Be aware that the park is open 7am until sunset and prohibits pets, skateboards, smoking, weapons, alcoholic beverages as well as littering.
Be alert for Muggles playing Disc Golf. If you get to the "No Trespassing" sign you went too far. If you came in from Croatan Woods or Chicora Court you missed the park entrance. No brute force needed to open the host. Take a moment and study the physics of how things work. The container is secured simply to prevent random openings by nature and area wildlife.
This area was once a very active North Carolina State Rest Stop and Welcome Center. After it closed the property sat neglected for several years. A recent deal between North Carolina and Dare County transferred the property to the county and is now a small local park. A nearby roadside marker also honors Reginald Aubrey Fessenden, a Canadian inventor who performed pioneering experiments in radio not far from this park.
