My grandmother, Amelia Peterson (Cook) was born in 1903 in Harbourview, just down the Shore Rd. Her father's house is long gone. This was the school she attended. Her father immigrated from Denmark, via the USA, to work in the coal mines in Harbourview, and finally Glace Bay. It is a family tradition that he survived a blast in Harbourview, but his co-worker beside him perished. Eliff Pederson (Alex Peterson) spoke Danish, remembered going on fox hunts, and apparently as a boy was a foot servant to the King of Denmark. To do so, he'd have to be related to the royal family; however this has never been researched by the family. My father stated he never wanted to talk about his youth in his later years.
