Enjoy meeting some of the former residents of this small, yet welcoming town. Take time to find some names that might be familiar and reminisce those who fought in the wars.
The Lumsden Cemetery was opened in 1883 and the first person buried here was John McPherson who was Lumsden's earliest school teacher. Before the cemetery opened, at least 50 people who died in the surrounding district had been buried in lonely graves. Prior to Mossburn, Athol and Balfour having their own cemeteries, people from these areas were brought to the Lumsden Cemetery for burial. Little is known about the early settlers of the area but some managed to make their mark on the community through their interests and work. The cache is a small plastic bottle previously used for holding vitamins. It is black and well out of sight. You don't need to cross any fences to find the cache.
