For 20 years until it was closed in 2004 the Craigroyston School House educated vulnerable, troublsome at-risk youths keeping them in education instead of turfing them out onto the streets. It was through the Craigroyston School House that many young people who would not have gained any qualifications were able to turn their lives around and move into adulthood with a sense of respect.
The building itself has an interesting exterior with artwork created by the pupils lining the lower walls.
The site is now the home of Screen Education Edinburgh, a film education and production company that specialises in working with hard to reach young people giving them opportunities to express themselves and develop new skills and career paths through film.
