Derailed Road Traditional Cache

This railway track was decommissioned for a very long time. During 2007 the community of Orkney Park got together and decided to build a road crossing the railway. They obtained the relavant permissions and approval from the council as well as Transnet. Building commenced during May 2007 and ended early August 2007. Funding for this came from pockets of the community members and various fund raising projects. On 2007/08/10 the road was officially opened.
However, in the beginning of 2013, Transnet informed the community that this railway will be operational again and the road would be demolished. A few weeks later the whole road was demolished without compensation to the community. Fences and curbstones were erected. The only evidence of this sad occation is the footpath of paving which was not destroyed. Note: There is no need to cross the railway.
