Part of the World Birding Center network, the Harlingen Thicket is an untouched nature reserve consisting of 40 acres of land, multiple wheel chair accessible trails, two bird blinds, and a covered picnic shelter with restrooms. This is a very popular place for birders and was created in part by the Rio Grande Birding Festival along with the Valley Land Fund and other conservation partners in 1997. The trails connect to the Arroyo Colorado trail that runs through the city.
This hike takes you off the beaten trail so keep a sharp eye out for the path. Walking shoes, sunscreen and bug spray is a must. Take your time or you may miss this one.
