Kuvaa on nyt (22.7.2025) viilattu sen verran että pohjois- ja itäkoordinaatit ovat selkeästi omilla riveillään allekkain. Kolme merkeistä on vaihdettu, jotta ratkaisu osoittaa suoraan purkille.
Anyone collecting stamps pre-internet era may remember the big job of looking up stamps from those murky b/w raster images of the printed catalogues. It could take hours to put a few stamps into collection. Nowadays, thanks to online services any stamp can be identified in seconds. Thus, stamps are rapidly put to store in stock books but at the same time one misses the chance of observing fine details of stamp design.
Let's put this to test with a few selected stamps from around the globe. To make things harder, I have left out some of the most vital information such as the country's name. The cropped images represent various small details of the original image. The smallest piece is only a few square mm –a private joke by the famous engraver and not really meant to be recognized,
To find cache, use available information in the images, e.g. engraving, perforation, art, people or indigenous flora and fauna etc. to uniquely identify the stamp. You may assume that none of the stamps has any overprinting that is not at least partly shown.
To obtain the coordinates from the stamps progress one decimal at a time and remember to carry. For example, a set of numbers (a,b,...,f) gives you a coordinate like this
