STEAM Cache Traditional Cache

This cache is located in North Park behind the Avalon Shelter at Mill Field, just a short uphill walk from easy parking.  Cache is a large screw top Geocache container.

This cache originated in a 3^rd grade classroom in a Pittsburgh Public School as part of a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) project. Students created travel bugs in the classroom, which were released in this cache. As of January 2021, the 14 travel bugs from the class of 2015-2016, which focused on Pittsburgh Firsts, have now traveled 410,600 miles! The 36 Save Energy Travel Bugs from the class of 2016-2017 have traveled 309,108 miles. The 10 Save the Earth Travel Bugs from the class of 2017-2018 have traveled 22,664 miles. The 8 Save the Earth Travel Bugs from the class of 2018-2019 have traveled 35,533 miles. The 10 Save the Earth Travel Bugs from the class of 2019-2020 have traveled 4,675 miles. In all, the travel bugs have traveled 782,580 miles, visiting 6 continents! Unfortunately, no travel bugs were released for the 2020-2021 school year because of the pandemic canceling in-class instruction. Students are tracking how far their travel bugs travel, so please only take them if you plan on keeping them moving. Good luck!
