Pioneer Hot Spot
This spot was once called Red Rock, Arizona, and settled more than two decades before T.C. Schnebly brought his wife Sedona to the area.
A pioneer settlement on Oak Creek in the area between Red Rock Crossing and Red Rock State Park was right here. In 1876, John Lee settled here, and Margaret Ann Jackson was the first white woman to live in this area on lower Oak Creek.
This was the location of the first pioneer cemetery and school. In 1883, little Clara Schuerman at age 5, was the first interred at the cemetery, located nearby.
Henry Schuerman, in 1884, acquired a 160-acre farm south of Lee’s property, where the state park is located.
T.C. and Sedona Schnebly didn’t arrive in the area until 1901.
And Walt Disney came to this Loop Road in 1967 to film his movie “Legend of the Boy and the Eagle”.
