One of my colleagues said it best, "As gratifying as it is to work in education, the problem with being a teacher is that the kids you work with become 'your kids.' As a teacher, my heart aches for the loss of a young life. As a father, my heart weeps for his parents. As a friend, my heart is heavy with grief and filled with memories." Leland was everything that we hope our students grow up to be-- hardworking, reliable, honest, creative, and strong, but above all else, he was kind. The world was a better place for anyone fortunate enough to know him. I am honored to have been his teacher and proud to call him my friend. He will be sorely missed.
