Geocache Description:

Pinetops Trail

Pinetops is a bush track that runs from Haywards Stream (substation), along the upper reaches of Keith George Memorial Park, to join the Loop Track in Silverstream Scenic Reserve. This cache is hidden beside the Haywards Stream track that feeds the tracks leading up to Pinetops. It's a short walk down from the Haywards Substation carpark into some mature regenerating bush.

The Pinetops caches

The 'Pinetops' series of Geocaches consists of:
  1. Under Haywards
  2. Gully bottom
  3. Mossy corner
  4. Lookout
  5. Melbye Creek
  6. Tree Cave

Parking

Park at either Haywards Substation or at the 'Welcome to Upper Hutt' information area on SH2. If you choose to park on SH2, the track starts on the right hand side of the stream halfway between the information area and the fantail sculpture.

The Cache

This 400ml camouflaged Systema clip-top contains a log and pencil, with room for small trackables and swag. GPS coverage is dodgy down here due to the terrain, vegetation and the overhead high-tension lines running from the substation above.

Please make sure the cache is hidden as found before you leave, and take care of the surrounding environment, thanks.

Acknowledgements

These bush tracks have been created by Brian Melbye, a dedicated volunteer who spends many hours working in the reserve. Brian is keen to see as many people using the trails as possible, so Council will continue to maintain them.
