Geocache Description:

Congratulations to all of the HURT 100 Runners for 2016!

'A'ole Makou E Ho'ohikiwale Kela!

KeoniOneCut, you are not insane, you are an inspiration. I am so proud of you for not only finishing a 100 mile HURT race, but for finishing strong. You came in 12th place, out of the 125 runners who started. That is quite an accomplishment considering this is your first (and probably not your last!) 100 mile ultra-marathon. You refused to sign the log when I placed this cache, but you deserve so much more than a digital smiley for what you endured and accomplished. You overcame all your doubts and you RAN with the best of them. May you always find the strength to overcome and persevere through all of life's challenges. Aloha Always, Liger

To my friend from S.C. whom I met on the trails after placing this cache, it was an honor and pleasure being able to hike with you for a few miles as you finished up Lap 4. I know you felt like the Hawaii trails had you beat after 80 miles. But I saw you change gears and get back on the trails for your final 5th Lap. I watched your times as you ran your last 20 miles, and YOU DID IT!!! I know your Hawaii HURT buckle will mean so much more to you since you pushed yourself that much harder physically and mentally to finish this race. I don't know if you ever stopped to read all the signs along the fenceline, but my favorite read: "Last is just the slowest winner." You were the 53rd runner to complete all 100 miles of the course within the 36 hour allotted time frame. You beat the clock, and you are a WINNER. While our paths may never cross again, I hope you were able to CELEBRATE your accomplishment during your last few days on the island.

There is no need to run 100 miles to reach this cache unless you desire to do so. The cache is placed along the Maunalaha trail, one of the trails used to make up the route for the HURT 100 Ultra-marathon race. While this isn't a difficult trail, this climb can be draining after having already done 20, 40, 60, or 80 miles worth of trail running. But even if this is just your first time on the trail, stop and enjoy the views and get a smiley while you rest.
