The rail line between Canberra & Cooma was closed to passenger trains in September 1988 after the bridge over Numeralla Creek was deemed unsafe, freight services along this line ceased in May 1989.
The 49km section between Queanbeyan and Michelago was reopened in April 1993 for heritage tourist operation however this was suspended in the beginning of 2007 due to storm damage.
The rail had stops in Royalla, Williamsdale, Michelago, Colinton, Bredbo, Billilingra, Chakola, Bunyan and Cooma, with bridges crossing Ingalara Creek, Bredbo & Numeralla Rivers and a tunnel under the hill at Colinton.
To access this cache we recommend that you park near the bridge at the end of Kelly Road and take a short stroll along the rail until you come to the forgotten grove of poplar trees that appear to have swallowed the rail.
After you have found the cache before returning along the rail take the time to explore this beautiful area, you will find a brick culvert and small rock drain not too far from the cache which is quite impressive.
This is a large cache so bring along your swaps
