The Wee House Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

DAISY PEACH: Hey chaps, really sorry for my previous log. We really want to return to the hobby and get this cache and my other caches up and running again soon. I made a decision in haste recently and we really regret it.

Geocache Description:

This geocaching experience takes you along the 'Granite Trail' which can be accessed from Newcatle harbour (just South of Newcastle beach)  The granite trail then leads off to Bogie hill and from there, onto King street.  A sign then marks the 'Starting Point' for the trail proper. This walk is regarded (by me, for sure) as quite strenuous by all accounts.  A three mile round trip will be required in total.

This experience will take you to a once thriving industry which hacked huge amounts of precious granite from Millstone mountain in the beautiful mountains of Mourne.  Several interesting artifacts and many remnants still remain to learn from.  Information boards will add to this wonderful hiking experience.

The cache container is a small tuppaware container which contains a few swaps.  Also a log book.  Hidden very close to the 'wee' house, hence the name!   (Apparently, this little building was once explosives store for quarry production) Many thanks to Landyliam for this fascinating information.

Enjoy your experience and be sure to take water, food, compass, sensible mountain clothing / footware.  Oh and your camera for sure.  Some fabulous views await you.

p.s. cache is hidden out of sight to preserve these wonderful mountains (tucked in safely under a large rock).  Also take a few items of trash out as it is not uncommon to find rubbish on the mountains.
