Geocache Description:

This is a quick and easy Park and Grab.  Please be sure to bring your own pen/pencil.  There should be plenty of parking spaces as it is located in a Store parking lot.  Please be courteous of shoppers, and watch for mugglers!  The cache is a small keyholder, magnetic.

Congrats to Eaglecap3 for being FTF!!!

From where you are standing when you locate the cache, look north on Rt1 and diagonally across the road. You will see a large Shopping Plaza with several stores. That is the site of a former amusement park/wild west show. Opened in 1957, Plainville's own ‘Cowboy Town’ provided family-oriented entertainment for the next three years. (Don't forget to check out the photo of it that I downloaded!) Their ads said it all: “Come join us for the rootin’, tootinest time of your life!” The thrilling gun fights and stage coach holdups that took place on this authentic-looking town situated on a 28-acre site halfway between Boston and Providence was enough to get any kid thinking they were in the Old West. The town included stockades, a fort and other buildings reminiscent of the Old West. My parents took us kids there a couple times during those three years. It was like a scene out of The Rifleman or Gunsmoke! I used to think that the gunfights were the real thing…can you imagine?!! It closed its dusty dirt roads for the final time in 1960. Until recently the lot was empty, it is now the current site for the Plainville Commons Shopping Center.
