In pieno centro storico si apre la cinquecentesca Piazza del Popolo, sviluppo di un’area circostante al nucleo originario che fu il castello di San Vito, con le sue prime mura e il primo borgo. L'antico borgo medioevale alla destra del Tagliamento è circondato dalle "fosse" e da una cinta muraria ancora visibile, con le tre torri ancora perfettamente conservate: Scaramuccia, Grimana e Raimonda. In quest'ultima, che prende il nome dal Patriarca Raimondo della Torre che l'ha fatta costruire nella seconda metà del Duecento, trova ospitalità un piccolo museo archeologico storico e artistico ("Museo civico F. De Rocco") il quale custodisce reperti del periodo preistorico e protostorico e anche romano e longobardo e opere d'arte (di particolare rilevanza artistica alcune sculture lignee di Bartolomeo dell'Occhio). A breve il museo verrà spostato nel castello appena restaurato dal comune. All'interno della piazza s'innalza il campanile di San Vito appena restaurato. Di particolare interesse è il palazzo Tullio - Altan, risalente al XVII secolo, ospita nelle sue sale il Museo Provinciale della Vita Contadina Diogene Penzi.
Sulla piazza si affacciano l’antica Loggia Pubblica, prima sede della municipalità sanvitese e sede dal ‘700 di uno splendido teatrino all’italiana che ora rivive intitolato al compositore sanvitese GianGiacomo Arrigoni (1597-1675); il Duomo, costruito nel 1745 su un preesistente edificio del Quattrocento e contenente una vera e propria galleria d’arte di opere di diversa epoca ed il Palazzo Altan Rota (XV secolo, oggi sede del Municipio), il più veneziano dei palazzi di piazza, con bellissimo giardino all’italiana antistante e maestoso parco sul retro.
Il castello di San Vito risale per certo al XII secolo e fu restaurato nel secolo successivo con l’aggiunta delle torri Raimonda e di San Nicolò (Scaramuccia). Accanto a quest’ultima rimangono le vestigia delle mura difensive che un tempo circondavano tutto il borgo nonché parte dell’Ospedale dei Battuti, fondato dalla confraternita laica dei Battuti nel XIV secolo. Degne di nota sono anche la Chiesa di santa Maria dei Battuti annessa all’antico ospitale, con ciclo di affreschi amalteiani commissionati dal patriarca di allora Marino Grimani, e la Chiesa dell’Annunziata o chiesa di santa Maria del Castello con affreschi trecenteschi di scuola friulana.

In the historic center there's the sixteenth-century Piazza del Popolo, the development of an area around the original nucleus that was the castle of San Vito, with its first walls and the first village. The old medieval town to the right of the Tagliamento is surrounded by "fosse" and by walls still visible, with the three towers still perfectly preserved: Scaramuccia, Grimana and Raimonda. In the latter, which takes its name from the patriarch Raimondo della Torre who had it built in the second half of the thirteenth century, there's a small archaeological museum historical and artistic ("Municipal Museum F. De Rocco") which holds the relics prehistoric and proto-historic and even Roman and Lombard and works of art (particularly relevant artistic sculptures in wood by Bartolomeo Dell'Occhio). Soon the museum will be moved to the castle recently restored by the municipality. Inside the square stands the bell tower of San Vito just restored. Of particular interest is the palace Tullio - Altan, dating from the seventeenth century, host in its halls the Provincial Museum of Country Life Diogenes Penzi.
On the square, facing the ancient Loggia Pubblica, the first seat of the municipality of San Vito and the seat from '700 to a wonderful Italian theater who now lives again named after the composer sanvitese Giangiacomo Arrigoni (1597-1675); the Cathedral, built in 1745 on an existing building of the fifteenth century and contains a veritable art gallery of works from different periods and the Palazzo Altan Rota (fifteenth century, now the Town Hall), the Venetian palaces of the square, with beautiful Italian garden in front and lovely park at the back.
The castle of San Vito dates back to the twelfth century and for sure it was restored in the following century with the addition of towers Raimonda and St. Nicholas (Scaramuccia). Next to it are the remains of the defensive walls that once surrounded the entire village and the Ospedale dei Battuti (Hospital of the Battuti), founded by secular brotherhood of the Battuti in the fourteenth century. Worthy of note are the Church of St. Mary of the Battuti annexed to the ancient hospitable, with frescoes of Pomponio Amalteo commissioned by the then Patriarch of Marino Grimani, and the Church of the Annunciation or the church of Santa Maria del Castello with fourteenth-century frescoes of the school of Friuli .
