Geocache Description:

A little less than a year has passed since the start of the Harlingen Geo-Quest so we have added a few more caches starting December 21st. We also have moved some of the containers that have been subject to Muggle tampering. If you are new to the Quest make sure to check our website http://www.myharlingen.us/page/parksandrec.geocachinghome and if you are coming back, thank you and feel free to earn a second coin by finding the new and transplanted caches.

Pendleton Park was named for Miller V. Pendleton, the mayor of Harlingen during World War I.  The land once contained the cattle feed lot owned by J.B. Hodge.  Now Pendleton Park is home to many amenities, but is most greatly know for the Veteran's Memorial that sits on the Morgan St. side of the park.  This memorial was first suggested in 2007 when Harlingen soldier, Darrell Shipp, was killed in Iraq.  It wasn't until 2012 that the bid process for a general contractor began.  By mid-September the project was declared "essentially complete".  A formal dedication cerimony and prayer service was given on November 11, 2012.

Since then the trail around the park was named the Hometown Heroes Trail; in honor of all of Harlingen's men and women who have or currently serve in the military and as first responders.  Handicap accessible equipment has been placed around the trail as well.  The trail will, with the completion of the expansion this February, stretch 1 1/2 miles.

Other features of the park include the HEB Tennis Center which consist of 18 lighted tennis courts, the Pendleton indoor pool, a park pavilion, 6 little league baseball fields and a senic pond with a fountain.

This cache takes you to the Grimes St. enterance of the park.  Parking is accessible and is close to the GZ.  That being said, this may or may not be concidered a Park and Grab depending on how sharp your eyes are.  Enjoy the scenery, and have fun!
