Gaston Sullivan enlisted in Company A of the 41st Alabama Infantry Regiment where he served as a Private. His name appears in some records ad Gaston Sullivant instead of Sullivan.
Gaston and his brother, William Russell Sullivan, both enlisted but in different units. Private Gaston Sullivan was severely wounded just 5 months into the war, in August, 1862. The company he was serving with at this time was in Murfreesboro Tennessee. His wounds put him into several hospitals, he was also issued several furloughs to recover. On April 14, 1864, nearly 2 years after being wounded, Private Sullivan returned to duty with his company.
