William Russell Sullivan enlisted at Big Creek Church in Coker to serve as a Private under Captain James J. Mayfield in Company G of the 38th Tennessee Regiment. There are many caches in the western area of Tuscaloosa that have shared the story of Company G of the 38th Tennessee; one for Captain James Mayfield (GC429JC), one for the Confederate Color Bearer (GC4G5X3), another called The Wilburns, The Hisaws and the Measles (GCD885) and one at the Big Creek Cemetery (GC64VD6).
William Sullivan had a curious challenge when it came to naming his sons. His had 6 sons, and he named 3 of them William. No issues with redundancy here, just a nightmare for the mailman.
