Captain James White, Company G, 41st Alabama Infantry
James was born March 6, 1823 in South Carolina. On April 3, 1862, at the age of 39, he enlisted in Company G of the 41st and was elected Lieutenant; and on February 18, 1864 was promoted to Captain of the Company. In April of 1864 he was wounded during the Battles of Drury's Bluff, Dutch Gap and Hatcher's Run but recovered from his injuries. In August of 1864 he fell ill at Petersburg Virginia, and was sent to the hospital at Lauderdale Springs, Mississippi. On February 15, 1865 he was disabled by surgeon’s certificate and sent home to Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
After the war James served on the Board of Commissioners and in 1869 became Justice of the Peace. James died January 10, 1895 and is buried at Dunn's Creek Baptist Church Cemetery #2. The side arms that Captain James White carried during the war are on display at Beauvoir, the Jefferson Davis Shrine, in Biloxi Mississippi.
