The Township of Spallumcheen, or the Municipality of Spallumcheen, has a population just over 5,000. The name Spallumcheen finds its derivation in a number of words in either the Shuswap or Okanagan first nations languages, each of the words basically meaning "flat". The flat productive land has given rise to a large agricultural industry in the township. Even the township's slogan is, "Where Farming Comes First".
At 255.77 square kilometres, Spallumcheen is one of the largest municipailties in British Columbia. To get a picture of the area covered by Spallumcheen, if you imagine the City of Armstrong as a Timbit, Spallumcheen is the much larger surrounding donut, with boundaries stretching from Vernon/Swan Lake in the south to Enderby in the North.
