Geocache Description:

Nixon Cemetery - William and Lattie Bumpers

William and Lattie Bumpers were married February 18, 1912 in Franklin County where they initially established their home near the community of Cecil.

By 1920, William and Lattie moved to Charleston where William established himself as a hardware merchant and operated a store.

William Bumpers actively engaged in politics. In 1933, he represented Franklin County in the state house of representatives. During this time, he also taught school for grades one through eight.

In 1900, Lattie Bumpers' father, William Jones, had received a land grant for eighty acres. It was issued from the Dandanelle Land Office. That same year, they were enumerated at Mill Creek in Franklin County. To support the family, Lattie's father operated a store in the community of Anice near Cecil. The store housed the post office for the area and Lattie served as postmistress.

William and Lattie had four children: Raymond, who passed at an early age, Margarette M., William Carroll, and Dale L. Bumpers (former Arkansas Governor and U.S. Senator).

Tragically in 1949 William and Lattie Bumpers both died as a result of a car wreck. Lattie died on March 22, 1949. William died just five days later, March 27th.

We have added an additional waypoint that are coordinates to the grave site for William and Lattie Bumpers.

There are many others buried in this cemetery. Each one has it's own story to tell. This is only one of them. We hope you enjoy the search and the history
