Baker University Wetlands Research and Natural Area is a 927 acre area north of the Wakarusa River south of the City of Lawrence. It contains native wetland prairie, restored meadow, marsh, open water, shrubby secondary growth, and mature riparian woodlands. The area is designated as a National Natural Landmark and Natural and Scientific Area. Area includes 7 miles of hiking and biking trails. Cache lies along the north bank of the Wakarusa River east of Parking Area #4.
This Cache is one of 8 Caches placed with permission of the Wetlands. The Cache is located at the Wakarusa River crossing for the Oregon-California Trail. Hiking, bicycles, kids, and four-footed kids (leash and doggy bag required) allowed. Travel overland from Parking Area #4. Maps are available at the Discovery Center or Parking Area #4.
