Geocache Description:

This is an easy find (Small cache with log and pencil) but a very important thing to be aware of when in the area. The Fire Danger Ratings. These are changed according to the days’ weather. Keep an eye on these every day and have a plan in place for what you will do if it hits severe, extreme and code red.

These ratings suggest what a fire will do on the day that has them. From Low to very high, if a fire starts, it can most likely be controlled in these conditions, check your Bush fire survival plan and continue to monitor conditions and stay alert. This doesn’t mean a fire won’t affect you. For a severe rating expect hot, dry and possibly windy conditions. If a fire starts and takes hold, it may be uncontrollable. Well prepared homes with fit people to actively defend can provide safety, be aware of conditions and any changes. An extreme rating you should expect extremely hot, dry and windy conditions. If a fire starts and takes hold it will be uncontrollable, unpredictable and fast moving. Only stay with your property if you are physically and mentally prepared to defend, otherwise leave early or the night before. Code red is the worst condition for bush or grass fires. Homes are not designed to withstand these conditions; the safest place is away from the risk area. Leave early in the morning or the night before. Know your trigger and know your plan. More information can be found at the CFA’s website or call the Bushfire information line on 1800 240 667. Enjoy the area. Stay alert, stay safe Geocachers!
