Geocache Description:

The final cache is NOT at the above posted coordinates. The coordinates are for the first stage and that will give you the coordinates to the final.

The Ghost Town Trail (GTT) totals 36 miles in Indiana and Cambria Counties, Pennsylvania. The trail was originally established in 1991 when the Kovalchick Salvage Company donated 16 miles of the former Ebensburg & Black Lick Railroad to Indiana County. In 1993 the Cambria & Indiana Railroad donated an additional 4 miles from Rexis to White Mill Station known as the Rexis Branch. In 2005 an additional 20 miles were added to the trail - 12 miles in Indiana County and 8 miles in Cambria County. The trail is designated as a National Recreation Trail by the U.S. Department of the Interior.  See this website for more info about this beautiful bicycling/hiking/walking trail:  http://www.indianacountyparks.org/trails/ghosttown_trail.aspx The GTT has 9 trailheads/parking areas.  One of these is at Vintondale.  At this trailhead is the Eliza Furnace. The Eliza Furnace is a National Register site regarded as one of Pennsylvania's best preserved iron furnaces. Dating from 1846 the Eliza Furnace is one of only a few iron furnaces remaining in the United States which still retains its original heat exchanger piping. The two-acre site is leased to Indiana County by the Cambria County Historical Society.

This is an fairly easy, kid-friendly multi - no hard puzzles to solve, and no coordinates to guess. The first stage, located very near the comfort station is a small container hidden just off the trail. There is a steep, but short climb to the first stage and some bushwhacking may be required. GPS is very jumpy at Stage 1, so if you're having trouble, let your GPS settle for 5-10 minutes. PLEASE REPLACE EXACTLY AS FOUND. This cache contains coordinates to the second and final stage. The walk/hike to the final stage is short (less than 0.3 miles), but a little steep near GZ. HINT: It's easier to go straight to the furnace and find the final from there instead of bushwhacking from the first stage. The final stage is a large plastic ammo can. This cache was placed in honor of a previous cache, GC5D71 - Eliza Furnace (by Rock33 and topogirl) that was archived in 2012.  I found this archived cache while researching this awesome location.  Please be very stealthy, as this is a very high muggle area most of the time.

This is Featured Cache #21 of the Cambria TRAILS Geotrail, which highlights the diverse TRAIL amenities of the area. Be sure to collect and record the Code Word from in the cache to your official Passport, which can be obtained from the Convention and Visitor’s Bureau. A map and list of all caches featured in the Geotrail can be found at the Geotrail page at http://www.arcgis.com/apps/MapTour/index.html?appid=182bfac2360c4b5890012614f46998d4#
