This memorial is a statue of soldier resting on reversed rifle with head bowed standing on a pedestal. His cap bears the badge of the Durham Light Infantry.
Underneath, at the top of the main panel, scrolls and cherubs are carved in half relief on each face. The pedestal flares gently down to two further bases. The whole rests in a small walled area with iron railings. The dedication is carried on the front of the pedestal.

There are literally thousands of War memorials around the country. WW1 Memorials were usually raised through public subscription to remember those that gave the ultimate sacrifice. Year 2014 was also the centenary of the start of the First World War it's about time there was a series dedicated to War Memorials. There is an un-numbered series in Scotland called Lest we forget. The name of this series We will remember them, was chosen from the very moving poem “For the Fallen” by Laurence Binyon. It is well worth searching out and reading.”
