Geocache Description:

The given coordinates place you at a historical marker describing the Battle of Santa Clara. This does not refer to some of today's arguments about development along El Camino Real, but to an event in the 19th century. Bring a pen to sign the log.

On January 2, 1847, somewhere hereabouts was fought the last northern battle of the Mexican-American War.    Suffice to say that this battle was bravely fought on both sides. Note the casualty report on the plaque to determine the coordinates of the final location.

Add 28 to the number of American casualties, subtract this sum from the last three digits of the given latitude to find the final latitude. Add 132 to to the number of Mexican casualties, subtract this sum from the last three digits of the given longitude to obtain the final longitude. The final location is within 1/2 mile.

(Note: While some other accounts of this battle contain slightly different casualty figures, the numbers on this plaque are the ones you should use for final coordinate calculation.)

Stage 1 and the walk to the final are on paved surface, the last 15 feet or so are not. Otherwise this would be a terrain 1/wheelchair accessible cache.
