While surveying the depth of the Wairoa River, I found myself also surveying suitable locations to place a geocache or two or twenty or even 100!. If only I had prepared a few caches ready to place while I was here.
So when I found an interesting vessel on the riverbank I thought why not place it somewhere? I had my waterproof field book with me, so I tore a page out of it, placed it in the vessel and found this location where I thought it might be above flood level.
ACCESS IS ONLY FROM THE RIVER, which is a great paddle by kayak. I wouldnt recommend bringing an outboard motorboat, as you cant launch it anywhere (except down by the SH2 bridge) and there are a few submerged logs. (The speed limit is 5knots along the whole river).
I have no idea what the container that I found is, so if anyone can tell me I would be very interested but be careful of the sharp object inside the lid.
Please write small on the log sheet, so the log lasts for a while and replace cache as found to keep it safe from heavy river flows. In the future it might pay to bring a spare (waterproof) log sheet with you in case this needs replacing. (Contact me for one.)
Congratulations to Tparty to score the FTF honours

Logging Etiquette:
As a geocache owner I have put a great deal of thought and effort in placing this cache. As a geocache finder, you have made an effort to join in with geocaching, you have made an effort to go out of your way to find the cache, so please make an effort into logging your find. Cache owners do not welcome single words, acronyms, or "copy and paste" logs as they don't tell the hider or other finders anything about your adventure (or lack thereof) in finding the cache. Please keep this in mind when entering your log.
