Geocache Description:

The flats on the northern side of Shannon Way stand on the site of Haddon Hall, a gothic mansion which was David Bowie's home from 1969 to 1972. This cache marks the site of this now-demolished local landmark.

It was while living at Haddon hall, which was roughly where the block of flats nearest to Southend Road is located, extending across where Shannon Way now is, here that much of the creative work was done on the Ziggy Stardust and Aladdin Sane albums. Bowie and his first wife Angie were among the founders of the Beckenham Arts Lab which organised events at the Three Tuns pub in Beckenham High Street (unfortunately no longer a pub but at least the building survives).

Sadly Haddon Hall was demolished in the early 80s, though quite a few photos from Bowie's time here are around on the Internet. Given Bowie's unexpected death last month I wanted to mark this site. Please be careful not to leave the cache exposed as I don't live close by, though I pass this way every few weeks to visit my mother.
