The Event
Yet another event to acknowledge the extra day we get every 4 years to adjust for the fact that each year is actually 365.25 days long.
Well to be a little more accurate, it's not every 4 years as the exact number is 365.2425 so the formula to figure out if it will be a leap year is:
if (year is not exactly divisible by 4) then (it is a common year)
else if (year is not exactly divisible by 100) then (it is a leap year)
else if (year is not exactly divisible by 400) then (it is a common year)
else (it is a leap year)
But the next time this interrupts the 4 year cycle is the year 2100 so no need to worry for a while.
The significance of this for the GC community is for filling in your day/month table of cache finds as you'll have to wait for 4 years to get a find on 29/2.
Also, geocaching.com are offering two virtual souvenirs. The first souvenir can only be earned on Leap Day itself — February 29 — by attending a geocaching event (like this one). The other souvenir can be earned all weekend long (February 27-29) by getting outside and finding a geocache.
The Location
The location for this event will be the Sir William Fry Reserve at the corner of Nepean Highway and Bay Road. There is plenty of parking either in the park's car park or in the service road directly outside the reserve on Nepean Hwy.
We will gather at the picnic shelter in the park not far West of the carpark.

The Time
The event will be from 7:00pm to 8:00pm.
Note
If you are coming along for freebees or handouts, you will be disappointed. It is just for signing the log to get your souvenir but more importantly we can all get to meet some new people or catch up with existing friends. We've only been addicted to this hobby for about 6 months so there are plenty of people we are yet to meet. If nobody turns up, we will enjoy exploring the park. If it is raining, bring a coat/umbrella.
Late Breaking News
1. There may be an FTF opportunity during the event so keep your ear out.
2. There may be nibbles for those who are peckish.
Afterwards
If anyone is interested, we will be hanging around to do the night cache in the same park. http://coord.info/GC33DDF. This will fulfill the requirements for the second souvenir.
