Geocache Description:

My job use to be transporting Amish workers to their jobs in Mount Hope from the Sugarcreek/Farmerstown/Charm areas. My morning views were pretty awesome as the sun came up over the horizon. One of my favorite places to take pictures of the sunrise is really close to this location. So I decided to place my very first cache here. Please, only daylight caching!

Here is a bit of history about this little town. According to the Holmes County Historical Society, Mt. Hope was laid out in 1827. Early settlers were impressed with the fertile soil, rolling land, and good water in the area. In 1841, according to records, Mt. Hope had one store, twelve houses, a post office, a school, and two churches. In 1843 H. D. Perky was born near Mt. Hope and, as an adult, he developed the first prepared breakfast food known as shredded wheat. He formed the Cereal Machine Company, later renamed the Shredded Wheat Company, which by 1900 was operating at Niagara Falls with Perky as president.

Some interesting facts about the location of the cache… This business, along with the factory and local event center located across the road, uses only power from diesel engines! It was started in 1990 in a converted chicken coop down the street.

You are looking for a small lock-n-lock container, placed with permission from the owner of the business. Please replace cache as you found it. If you happen to catch the sunrise while you are visiting, please take a picture and share!

Happy Hunting!
