The Caches are accessible either by public transport or car. The public transport is via bus or train from Fort William to Spean Bridge. From the train station head towards the golf course and into the forest via Cache GC5KTWN continue up the path turning left on the wide forestry track. This will take you close to KL1. Or you can park in the Woodland Car park close to another Cache GC4795D. Either way offers a good start to a lovely 4.5km walk in the forest.
Be careful through the forest as there are many fallen trees and rotten bridges especially between KL1 and KL2. Take care.
All 5 caches are very close to paths. if you find yourself thrashing through thick forest you have gone the wrong way. Only KL2 is further off the path. The walk is a mixture of Wide Forestry Tracks and Narrow Woodland Trails. A suggested route is as follows.
From Parking to KL1 walk up Forestry Track. You will come to a crossing of paths. (This is where you join the track if you have come from the Station).Follow the UPM TilHill Trail.
From KL1 continue following the Woodland Trail up the hill. At one poiint cross a forestry track - and follow another signposted woodland trail - Becareful of Rotten Bridges and fallen trees. Meet another Forestry Track turn left towards KL2. On the way you will pass a forestry track down to left, ignore for now- after a short walk the title of KL2 will be obvious.
From KL2 double back along the Forestry Track turning right onto the previously ignored Forestry Track. This will lead to KL3 & KL4.
From KL4 - do not follow this short cut - continue down the forestry track. Further down the hill, within sight of the gate to the road, there is a trail going off to the left. Follow this to KL5.
From KL5 continue along the trail to the original cross roads. Turn right back to the car park or straight on back to the station trail.
All the Killiechonate Woodland Caches require you to take your own pen and a pair of tweezers to extract the log from the container won't go a miss. Please replace all logs exactly where you found them.
