Townland of Ballymoney Traditional Cache
Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
This is a series based on the ancient Irish townland system and while the places chosen may seem a little random, they all mean something to me.
A small magnetic plastic container with only a log so BYOP. Parking is possible at GZ but please pull well in off the road to avoid becoming an obstruction. Please return exactly where found.
The Townland of Ballymoney is divided between the Parishes of Magherally and Seapatrick in the Barony of Iveagh Lower in The County Of Down.
The name probably comes from the Gaelic name 'Baile Muine' which means 'Townland of the Thicket'.
The Magherally section measures 374.97 acres making it the 693rd largest townland in County Down.
The Seapatrick section measures 423.29 acres making it the 592nd largest townland in County Down.
It is bordered by Ballycross, Kilpike, Mullafernaghan, Tonaghmore, Tullyhinan, Ballydown, Ballyvally, Edenderry and Tullyrain.
Ballymoney has been chosen because it is the townland where my Mums youngest sister and her family lives.
