Geocache Description:

A simple adventure styled Wherigo where you will explore a small section of QECP and which can be completed in an hour, but allow an hour and a half if you wish to immediately return to the free parking (detailed below) where you started your adventure. The cache is a small container holding a logsheet and pencil.

Note: The adventure and cache will only be available in 2016 and will be archived at midnight on the 31st December 2016.

It is 2016! a black star hang ominously above and the night sky dominated by a rare planetary alignment of the five brightest planets. In the year of leap, pixie folk foretell of impending doom (you know the sort of things floods, earthquakes, plagues and the local Indian restaurant closed for no fathomable reason).
You play the part of Piggle Lightfoot a mischievous pixie who has yet to learn the art of flying, but who has been charged with the responsibility of finding the mythical Hortwonkle Box, which it is said will negate the effects of this celestial negativity. However the task is not one Piggle is looking forward to as it involves visiting a number of pixie clans who will bestow nothing but insults, before giving any useful information concerning the location of the legendary Hortwonkle Box. Adventurers with a thick skin and warped but childish sense of humour need only apply (If it is intellectual stimulation you seek, may I suggest a local Earthcache. However if you're a true twaddle seeker, this might well appeal).

Here are some Wherigo top tips to ensure you have a fun experience:

1. If you are new to Wherigo , familiarise yourself with the Wherigo interface by playing the Wherigo Player Tutorial, which can be played anywhere. This cartridge came preloaded on my Oregon 450.

2. The cartridge automatically saves your progress after you have successfully completed each zone. This will allow you to restart your adventure from that point, should a failure occur, or you wish to take a break. To simply continue the adventure from the last save point, it is recommended you switch your device off and on again, reload the Wherigo application and the cartridge and answer 'Yes' to restore the saved game.

3. BE SURE TO READ ALL OF THE AVAILABLE TEXT ON THE DISPLAYED WHERIGO PAGE BY ALWAYS ATTEMPTING TO SCROLL DOWN, BEFORE PRESSING ANY BUTTONS. FAILING TO DO THIS MAY RESULT IN YOU MISSING SOME VITIAL INFORMATION ON WHAT TO DO NEXT. One of the failings of the Wherigo interface when using the Oregon is that there is no visual indication, such as a scrollbar to show that there is more text to view.

4. If for some reason your device crashes (this has only occured once to me and that was using a Colorado with weak batteries), I thoroughly recommend actually taking the batteries out and replacing them before starting again and restoring your last saved game.

5. Ensure you either use new batteries or fully charged batteries before undertaking this adventure. Take some spare batteries, in case they run down faster than you'd thought they would.

6. When navigating to a zone the arrow can be a good guide, but trust the numbers counting down. They are most accurate.
Remember however that zeroing in on a location (zone) will only take you to the edge of the Wherigo zone, so it is recommended that you walk a few more feet into the zone to ensure that any items or characters that are in that zone don’t disappear because you are no longer in the zone. Note: The Colorado used for testing did seem to suffer from zone wandering.

7. If you have trouble closing in on a zone, then try moving a few meters or feet away and then move quickly toward the zone. That should help to trigger it.

8. Garmin Oregon Users ensure you clear your Track Data prior to undertaking any Wherigo adventure. This can be achieved by selecting Setup, Reset, Clear Current Track as this frees up a lot of device memory.

This cartridge has been completed successfully using all the following devices:
Garmin Oregon 450 Android Phone and Tablet ( Select the 'Pocket PC Device' when downloading the cartridge.) (WhereYouGo App),
PocketPC/Windows Mobile (Official Player)
and iPhone (3GS - running the pocket PC version of the cartridge) (
PiGo)

This cartridge has not been attempted using the following devices:
Blackberry/J2ME (
OpenWiG)

Once you have completed the adventure you will be issued with a fifteen character unlock code which will also be placed within your Wherigo Inventory. This code can be used on the Wherigo website to unlock the cartridge which records the fact you have completed adventure and allows you to rate your experience.

This Wherigo adventure was created using the (Wherigo Kit), a free online tool for the development of simple Wherigo adventures which is very easy to use and requires no programming or special technical skills. Why not take a look yourself and let YOUR creative juices flow.

This cache was placed with the kind permission of QECP and visitors are reminded to abide by the rules of the country park while visiting.
